Student Loans Take Over America

By: Kimberly Stevens

The debt of student loans in America has surpassed credit card debt.  According to Huffingtonpost.com, the disputed $1 trillion student-loan debt’s carriers have taken to the streets.

Many movements have been calling for Obama to forgive student loans to stimulate the economy. Considering the trillions in bailout money given to banks and businesses, and Bush’s TARP strategy, proponents of forgiving student loans think it’s the best economic stimulus according to Forgivestudentloandebt.com. Although the site hasn’t been updated in years, it shows how long this idea has been in the air.

Now that this idea has reached the Occupy Wall Street movement, attention has been brewing. OWS has another proponent considering student loans called wearethe99percent.tumblr.com. This idea shows stories of people who just can’t make it and are working many jobs just to survive.

The idea that higher education will equal a financial stability is now being seriously questioned. The impact and magnitude of America’s student-loan debt is plaguing the nation. Which movement can survive?
