Razorback Season Opener Puts a Spotlight on More than One Wilson
By: Corey Woodard

The Arkansas Razorback’s Saturday night win over the Jacksonville state Gamecocks was reminiscent of their Cotton Bowl victory last season against Kansas state. In true Razorback fashion, the Hogs trampled the Alabama- based team putting up 49 points to their 24. This was a bright new day full of fresh beginnings for the Hogs as head Coach John L. Smith took the field for the first time. Star running back Knile Davis also returned to the gridiron for the first time since facing the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2011 Sugar Bowl, rushing for 70 yards on 18 carries. (web)

This was also a day for the record books for senior quarterback and Greenwood native, Tyler Wilson. The Heisman hopeful had an outstanding day finishing the season opener with 367 yards through the air, and 3 touchdowns on 19 of 27 passes, breaking the record formerly held by Arkansas quarterback Casey Dick for the most passing yards in a season opener.

Tyler wasn’t the only one in the Wilson family cast into the limelight on Saturday. University of Arkansas Fort Smith freshman Allie Wilson, little sister of the Razorback QB, received the opportunity to speak to over 1,500 high school students from all over the state and surrounding areas Saturday at the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Game Day Rally.
“I spoke at FCA Game Day this year because I have a passion for it. Not only a passion for speaking, but a passion for the hogs, as well as God! " Wilson spoke to the teens about finding her own voice, and ultimately God’s voice, while living under the shadow of her older brother. “Growing up with Tyler has helped me find my own voice for a lot of reasons. Many times I found myself caught in his shadow while playing sports, out in public, and even in the classroom. When his identity became mine I found it hard to compare myself to him any longer. He was always better. After multiple FCA events and listening to wise people as well as reading my Bible, I discovered a deep love for God and the talents he has given me. I put those talents, such as my athletic ability, public speaking, and volunteering into play and started being who God called me to be.”

Much anticipation surrounds Allie's leadership abilities, as well as her future on the UAFS tennis courts. During her time on two class 5-A state champion tennis teams at Greenwood High school, Wilson was awarded as a two- time class 5-A state doubles champion, two- time overall state doubles champion, four- time all conference recipient, and a four- time all state recipient. You could say there is an air of excitement about her potential at UAFS.

In addition to her time on the court at UAFS, Allie hopes to obtain a degree in Marketing, develop many new friendships, and become a strong Christian and advocate for Christ.
