Jason Sacran has had a great influence on the art community in the Fort Smith area. Jason has a BFA from Tennessee Tech University. Since moving to Arkansas, Jason has worked as the curator for the Fort Smith Art Center, an adjunct Professor for the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, and as a full time artist. Jason loved his time working for the University.
When I spoke with Jason he told me, “they have incredible faculty and they are totally about fundamentals and I think a student will come out of their program knowing more than they would in most other programs.” The demanding schedule of a full time artist unfortunately pulled Jason away from the university. The artist’s Spring Summer and Fall seasons are dedicated to traveling for plein air competitions, paint outs, and invitationals. For the invitationals an organization will invite 25 to 35 of the painters they consider to be the best outdoor painters in the country.
Jason is invited to several of these a year where he competes for prizes and recognition. Jason rarely leaves an invitational empty handed. In 2013 alone Jason received more than 30 awards. Since he has fully dedicated himself to his art his name has spread rapidly and he has grown as an artist.
